Privacy Policy

• Account details: your name and email address. If you sign up with a password, it is handled by our secure sign-in service and never visible to us. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google.
• Support messages: anything you send us by email, including through the Contact Us page.
• Billing details: your plan, subscription status and billing dates. Payments are processed by our payment provider, Paddle, which handles your card details — we never see or store them.
• Basic technical information: such as your browser type and error reports, used to keep PlateWise working.

• Age, gender, height, current weight, goal weight and country.
• Your goals (for example lose weight or build muscle), weight-loss speed and activity level.
• Medical conditions you choose to share. This is health information, which POPIA treats as special personal information. It is optional and used only to adjust your meal plans.
• Family members you add: their name, age, goal and optional weight. Only add family members with their permission, or as their parent or guardian.

• Dietary preferences (such as halal or vegetarian), cultural cuisines and eating style.
• Foods and drinks you love or dislike, and your own foods and drinks.
• Weekly food budget, pantry items, family-friendly settings and special occasions.
• Favourite meals, your own saved meals and snacks, and meal-plan choices such as swaps, leftovers, skipped meals, extra snacks, drinks and no-cook days.

• To create and secure your account and give you access to PlateWise.
• To build your weekly meal plans, portions, recipes, shopping lists, meal-prep checklists and weight forecasts. Plans are made with fixed rules from our food database. We do not use AI to process your information.
• To manage your free trial and, when available, your subscription.
• To answer support requests and tell you about important changes to PlateWise or these policies.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

• Your account, profile, preferences and saved meals are stored in a secure cloud database run by our hosting providers. These providers may store data on servers outside South Africa.
• Shopping-list and meal-prep ticks are stored only in your browser on your device. Clearing your browser’s site data removes them.
• We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account under Settings, or ask us to, we delete your account information and associated data, except records we or our payment provider must keep by law, such as payment records.

• All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
• Access controls make sure each account can only read and change its own information.
• Passwords are handled by a dedicated sign-in service and are never stored in plain text.
• Only authorised people can access personal information, and only to support you or operate PlateWise.

No online service can guarantee complete security. Please use a strong password and sign out on shared devices.

Under POPIA, you have the right to:

• ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy;
• correct or update your information. You can edit most of it yourself under Settings and Preferences;
• delete your account and personal information yourself under Settings, or ask us to do it;
• object to how we process your information, or withdraw consent for optional information such as medical conditions;
• complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa (inforegulator.org.za).
